SCAD presents Orson Welles’ adaptation of Macbeth
The Performing Arts department at SCAD will present Orson Welles’ Macbeth starting tonight at 8 p.m. at the Lucas Theatre. The show will run at that time until Saturday, then close out at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tonight’s performance is free with a valid SCAD ID, while ticket prices for the remaining nights are $5 to $15.
Orson Welles recreated and directed Shakespeare’s tragedy when he was 21 as a contribution to the Federal Theater Project. SCAD’s production will be directed by Mark Tymchyshyn.
Welles’ created a highly compressed version of the tragedy. And, in SCAD’s version almost 40 cast members will recreate the classic.
“Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s more accessible plays to being with. The graphic novel approach is going to be useful, especially in keeping a younger audience involved,” said Artistic Director, Sharon Ott, in a press release.
