The SCAD Style senior fashion show takes place on May 15Photo by Jessi GilbertSome of the brightest stars in fashion and design will shine on Georgia when SCAD Style:Reveal gets underway next week. For 11 days, beginning April 26, the professionals shaping the trends in fibers, furniture and architecture will lead discussions, offer master classes, host workshops, exhibit their creations and inspire imaginations in Savannah and Atlanta.
Fashion major Taylor Justin gives the run-down on Savannah’s events, which are open to all students. SCAD Style will culminate in the senior runway show, May 15 at Trustees Theater, where icon Diane Von Furstenberg will be honored with the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award, named for VOGUE magazine’s contributing editor.

Are There Style and Design Problems Left to Solve?

Kip Kotzen, founder of brand strategy and design distribution company, Neo-Unity, and Jason Miller and Jonathan Olivares, named Best Breakthrough Designers by Wallpaper magazine, will answer that question.
A Monumental Happening: The Making of Fashion Week
3:30 p.m.
Fans of Bravo’s The Fashion Show will recognize judge Fern Mallis, who is widely credited as the creator of New York’s Fashion Week. The senior vice president of IMG Fashion, Mallis will lecture on how this event elevated the influence of American fashion.

The Real Deal: Branding, Marketing and PR Lecture with Kelly Cutrone
3:30 p.m.
International public relations, branding and marketing genius, Kelly Cutrone, brings her no nonsense advice to SCAD. The founder of People’s Revolution, she will sign her book, “If You Have to Cry, Go Outside (And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You).”
Sartorially Speaking: An Insider’s Style History
5:30 p.m.
Learn why vintage is so very at the panel discussion, which includes Derek Blasberg, contributing editor at VOGUE’s style.com and fashion editor-at-large at V magazine, and Cameron Silver, owner of Decades boutiques in Los Angeles and London. A book signing for Blasberg’s “Classy: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady” follows.

The Model as Muse Lecture with Bettina

Named by Balmain and the muse for Givenchy’s first collection in 1952, Simone” Bittina” Bodin was one of the world’s first supermodels long before the term even existed. She shares her exciting story.
Design with Retail in Mind
It’s not enough to have imagination and impeccable skills, a good head for business is essential to success. Brian Bolke, a fashion/furnishing boutique owner in Dallas, Jaqui Lividini, partner in LWP, the New York-based fashion marketing/public relations company and Robert Rufino, editor-at-large for House Beautiful magazine and the former vice president of creative services for Tiffany & Co will offer their insider’s knowledge on how to get from her to there.

Nathan Copan, the photographer who has captured the Ralph Lauren look, Amir Mohammady, creative director of Ralph Lauren Media, and Matt Trainor, editorial director of Ralph Lauren Media, will discuss this next phase for the iconic American designer.
Undercurrents in Design with Robert Klanten

Industrial designer Robert Klanten’s Gestalten has published more than 300 eye-catching books that look as good as they read. A book signing will follow his lecture.

Panelists include Jaithan Kochar, co-founder of lifestyle company Eddie Ross, Inc., Rita Konig, New York Times blogger (“Inside Out”), decorator and author of “Domestic Bliss,” Richard Mishaan, founder of Homer design, Nick Olsen, blogger and ex-Dominomag.com deal hunter and Eddie Ross, style blogger and co-founder of lifestyle company Eddie Ross Inc.
Art in the Open with Alexandre Arrechea

Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea will be on hand to discuss the way his art explores both public and domestic spaces. His solo show, “The Rules of Play,” is on view now at SCAD’s Gutstein Gallery.

Then and Now: Lessons for 1980′s New York

Shoulder pads, androgyny, big hair and jewelry, acid colors and stone-washed jeans: these images conjure when someone mentions ‘80s fashion. But the re-emergence of some Reagan-era trends doesn’t mean the remake of “Dynasty.” Victoria Bartlett, founder of the VPL fashion line, Sally Brunger , ‘80s it-girl and co-creator of The Brungers line of knitwear, and Michael Schmidt, costume designer for Madonna and Lady Gaga, among others, will be on hand to discuss the lessons learned.

Hamish Bowles, European editor-at-large for Vogue and editor-in-chief of Vogue Living, is recognized as one of the most respected authorities on the worlds of fashion and interior design. Lecture will be followed by a book signing of Bowles’ “The World in Vogue: People, Places, and Parties.”
