Sunny Nelson, Director of SCAD’s Communications Department, released the following statement on Oct. 29:
The SCAD community is deeply saddened by the tragic death of student Sean Giroir. Our administration, faculty, staff and students offer their deepest sympathy and condolences to the Giroir family during this difficult time.
The investigation by the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is ongoing. Any additional information regarding the investigation will be disseminated by the police department.
Members of the SCAD community who would like to speak with a grief counselor are encouraged to contact the university’s counseling and student support services at 912-525-6971 or email@example.com. Information on any memorial services will be shared when available.
One SCAD student was killed and another person was injured in a home invasion around 4 p.m., Oct. 28 at 35th and Barnard Streets.
The student, Sean Giroir, a third-year film and television major from Houston, Texas, died of his wounds at Memorial University Medical Center. Another person, Mike Levi, is recovering from gunshot wounds. Levi was not a SCAD student.
During the immediate investigation, Savannah-Chatham Counter Narcotics Team removed a large stash of drugs from the house.
Julian Miller with SCMPD’s Public Affairs Office said, “How that played into it remains to be seen.”
Police are still looking for three male suspects in a dark gray Honda CRV with tinted windows seen fleeing the scene.
