Name: Lindsey Smith
Major: Fashion Design
Year: Fourth-year
Hometown: Slidell, La.

District: When did you decide you wanted to pursue a career in fashion?

Lindsey Smith: My senior year in high school I decided that choreography wasn’t the smartest direction to go into. I really liked clothes and I really liked drawing so I figured fashion design sounded the best.

District: What was the inspiration behind your collection?

Smith: Usually my collections are print-driven, so I always try to look up things that can help me develop my prints and I decided to do graffiti and urban life.

District: What was the most challenging part of building your senior collection?

Smith: The late nights. Staying up all night. Staying up days at a time.

District: What are your post-graduation plans?

Smith: I’m going to go home for a while and work, save up money, and then, maybe, in January I’m going to try to head to LA and work for a juniors design company.

District: Who has been the most influential person when developing your collection?

Smith: Probably my favorite designer, Betsey Johnson, just because I always look at her for silhouette ideas. I usually like to do girly, flirty and fun silhouettes.

District: How do you categorize your design aesthetic?

Smith: I would say young, contemporary, colorful and fun.

District: Of your peers, whose collection is your favorite?

Smith: Patricia Garcia, and she is in the show.

District: Do you have any advice for future seniors starting their collections?

Smith: Make it simple. [laughs]
